According to a recent report from SPORT, several Real Madrid players are facing uncertain futures as incoming manager Xabi Alonso prepares to oversee his first matches in charge.
Club World Cup Set to Determine Future of Six Real Madrid Stars Under Xabi Alonso

Following a disappointing season with no major silverware, attention within the club has now turned to the forthcoming Club World Cup—a rare opportunity to salvage some success and, crucially, a decisive platform for fringe players to prove their worth.
This latest edition of the tournament is expected to serve as a litmus test for various squad members.
While certain departures—such as Jesús Vallejo and Lucas Vázquez—are reportedly imminent regardless of performance, others still have the chance to earn a place in Alonso’s plans. Luka Modrić, Dani Ceballos, Endrick, David Alaba, Rodrygo, and Fran García are among those under scrutiny.
Alaba and García Facing the Heat
David Alaba finds himself in a particularly precarious position. With Éder Militão and Antonio Rüdiger on track for full recoveries, and promising youngster Dean Huijsen expected to be integrated into the senior squad, Alaba could begin the next campaign as the fourth-choice centre-back.
Adding further competition, Alonso is reportedly keen to assess youth academy product Joan Martínez for a potential role in the first team.
On the left flank, Fran García is also under intense pressure. With Ferland Mendy working towards full fitness and Álvaro Carreras strongly linked with a return to Madrid, the left-back position could soon become overcrowded.
García, likely to be the only natural left-back available for the Club World Cup, is expected to use the tournament as a last opportunity to impress. Should he underperform, he may be sacrificed when Mendy returns and if Carreras’ transfer is completed.
Rodrygo and Endrick: Diverging Roads
Rodrygo’s situation is more nuanced. Though the Brazilian forward has delivered moments of brilliance, the anticipated arrival of Kylian Mbappé and the rapid rise of Arda Güler could significantly reduce his playing time. If deemed surplus to requirements, Rodrygo would likely be sold on a permanent deal rather than loaned out.
Endrick, meanwhile, remains a long-term project. The club is reportedly excited by his potential, but given the expected congestion in attacking roles, a loan move may be considered to ensure the young forward gains consistent first-team experience.
Modrić and Ceballos Must Convince
In midfield, both Modrić and Ceballos face uncertain futures. The Croatian veteran’s legendary tenure at the Bernabéu could be nearing its end unless he demonstrates to Alonso that he still possesses the vision and physicality to contribute at the highest level.
Ceballos, for his part, has struggled to cement a regular place in the starting XI. Without a strong showing at the Club World Cup, he may be deemed expendable.
As Real Madrid enter a new era under Alonso, the Club World Cup will be more than just a shot at redemption—it will be a defining trial for several players whose futures hang in the balance.
