Nigerian Woman Awarded N500,000 for Returning Government Fund Mistakenly Transferred to Her Account
The Katsina State Government on Tuesday honored Malama Amina Abdulkadir-Yanmama with a reward of N500,000 for returning a sum of N748,320, which had been mistakenly credited to her account.
The N748,320 was intended for the federal government’s home-grown school feeding program in Katsina. Mudassir Nasir, the Executive Director of the Katsina State Social Investment Programme Agency (KASIPA), presented the reward to Abdulkadir-Yanmama.
According to Nasir, the woman received an alert labeled "payment for vendors providing food to primary school pupils." However, she recognized that she was not registered as a vendor under the program and was not involved in the school feeding initiative. Concerned by the situation, she visited the KASIPA office to report the mistake.
"We requested her bank statement, and after verification by the Office of the Auditor-General, it was confirmed that she was telling the truth. As a result, Governor Dikko Radda directed that she be rewarded with N500,000, honored with a commendation letter, and offered the opportunity to participate in the next school feeding program," Nasir explained.
The Auditor-General, Anas Tukur-Abdulƙadir, also commended Abdulkadir-Yanmama for her honesty and integrity.
In response, Abdulkadir-Yanmama said, “I knew that I had to return the money because it doesn’t belong to me.” She expressed her gratitude to the governor and the KASIPA management for the support, recognition, and encouragement she received.
