Police stated that they believe the incident was targeted, suggesting that the individuals involved were known to each other. Authorities indicated there is no ongoing threat to the public.

A shooting in Baltimore County, Maryland, on Tuesday resulted in one person being killed and nine others injured, with a vehicle also set ablaze, according to police reports.

The Baltimore County Police Department responded to multiple reports of gunfire around 7:15 p.m. in the area of Loch Raven Boulevard in Towson. Upon arrival, officers discovered a vehicle overturned and engulfed in flames. "Multiple victims were discovered, and the fire department was alerted to provide assistance," said Baltimore County Police Chief Robert McCullough during a press conference.

Police later confirmed that this incident is being classified as a mass shooting. "One person was pronounced dead at the scene, and nine others were transported to nearby hospitals with injuries," McCullough stated. Authorities believe the shooting was targeted. "This appears to be intentional," McCullough added. "We believe the individuals involved knew each other, and there is no ongoing threat to the public."

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) also responded to the scene, according to the agency's confirmation to ABC News.

As of now, the investigation is in its early stages, with police working to determine the sequence of events that led to the shooting and crash. Evidence of gunfire was discovered on the façade of a nearby building, and shell casings were found at the scene.

Baltimore County Executive Johnny Olszewski described the event as a "shocking tragedy," adding that violent incidents of this nature are rare in the area. "We will provide all necessary resources to support our police and fire departments as they work to bring justice to those responsible," he stated.

Authorities have urged residents to avoid the area as the investigation continues.
