5 Family Members Found Dead Inside Utah Home, Police Confirm
Five members of a Utah family were discovered dead in their West Valley City home on Tuesday, according to police reports.
A 17-year-old was found alive at the scene and was immediately transported to a hospital, Deputy Communications Director Roxeanne Vainuku confirmed to ABC News.
The victims are believed to be family members, including a 42-year-old male, a 38-year-old female, an 11-year-old boy, a 9-year-old girl, and a 2-year-old girl, according to authorities.
A family member had reached out to police on Monday after being unable to contact the woman who lived in the home, the West Valley City Police Department reported on X (formerly Twitter).
Officers arrived at the residence but were unable to make contact with anyone inside. After inspecting the windows and speaking with neighbors, the officers did not find any signs of an emergency or criminal activity. They then advised the family member to stay in touch, according to the police.
When the woman failed to show up for work on Tuesday, the concerned family member who had initially contacted authorities returned to the house. Upon entering the garage, they found the 17-year-old with an apparent gunshot wound and called the police.
“We have obtained a search warrant for the home, and investigators have entered and begun their investigation,” the West Valley City Police Department said in a statement.
"Officers have also canvassed the neighborhood, gathering information and any video evidence," the statement continued.
Authorities believe the situation is contained to the house and have no reason to believe there are any outstanding suspects.
