Harry Wilson scored twice in added time to secure a thrilling 2-1 victory for Fulham over their west London rivals Brentford on Monday. Vitaly Janelt had powered the Bees ahead against the run of play midway through the first half. Fulham were left frustrated until added time, when substitute Wilson flicked in the equaliser before heading home the winner in the final moments. “It was an incredible feeling to come on and score the two goals to win the match. We deserved it, as we kept them under pressure throughout,” said Wilson.
Premier League: Fulham Score Twice in Added Time to Overcome Brentford
The win lifts Marco Silva’s side up to ninth, just three points from the top four.
Brentford had been on course for a place in the top half until the late turnaround, but now remain in 12th position.
Fulham were unable to make the most of a strong start, with Reiss Nelson denied by Mark Flekken.
Brentford had scarcely threatened prior to taking the lead in the 24th minute, when Janelt unleashed a powerful strike from distance that flew past Bernd Leno.
Emile Smith Rowe missed a significant chance to respond immediately, and the home side struggled to break through Brentford’s tightly packed defence after half-time.
Fulham finally managed to beat Flekken on their 25th attempt on goal, as Wilson’s clever effort looped over the Dutch goalkeeper from Adama Traoré’s cross.
Moments later, the Welsh international found himself with an unexpected second.
Wilson’s attempted header deflected off his shoulder, wrong-footing Flekken and sailing into the top corner.
“They both went in, although not exactly as I’d intended!” Wilson added.
“For the first, I simply guided it towards the far post, and the second was fortunate – I aimed to head it into the other corner, but it struck my shoulder and found the net.”
