After months of speculation, it has now been officially confirmed that Trent Alexander-Arnold will depart Liverpool at the end of the season.

The Reds vice-captain announced on Monday that he will leave Anfield upon the expiry of his contract at the end of June, drawing the curtain on a 20-year journey with the club he joined at the age of six.

His departure comes amidst mounting speculation that the England international could be set to join Real Madrid as a free agent once his Liverpool deal concludes.

During his time with the Reds, Alexander-Arnold amassed an impressive collection of honours, including two Premier League titles, one UEFA Champions League, two League Cups, one FA Cup, one FIFA Club World Cup, and one UEFA Super Cup.

The 25-year-old confirmed the news in a heartfelt interview released by Liverpool on Monday morning. The video was shared almost exactly a year to the day since he became emotional during another farewell at Anfield—that of former manager Jürgen Klopp.

It was on 19 May 2024 that Klopp oversaw his final match as Liverpool manager, a 2–0 victory over Wolves at Anfield. The occasion was marked with an emotional send-off from players, staff, and supporters, culminating in a rendition of the club's anthem, You’ll Never Walk Alone. Alexander-Arnold was seen visibly holding back tears as he stood alongside Klopp in front of the Kop for one final time.

Later, in a television interview with Viaplay, he was moved to tears as he paid tribute to the German manager's influence on both his personal and professional life.

“He's changed my life and everyone around me—my whole family,” Alexander-Arnold said. “This was all possible through him, so I can never say thank you enough for that. He made my dreams come true, so there’s a big thank you to him for that.

“I’m never emotional, honestly. Ask my family, ask anyone—I’m not emotional. I can’t remember the last time I cried.

“Honestly, I haven’t cried in years, so this is very, very, very strange for me. It just shows how much he means to me and the club.”

Alexander-Arnold could make up to three more appearances in a Liverpool shirt before his departure. Two of those fixtures will take place at Anfield, starting with this Sunday’s clash against Arsenal, followed by the final-day match against Crystal Palace on 25 May.

That fixture will also serve as a celebration, as Liverpool are set to lift the Premier League trophy—an emotional and fitting conclusion to Alexander-Arnold’s remarkable chapter at his boyhood club.
