23-year-old Pacer Harshit Rana Named as Replacement in Final 15-Man Squad

India’s star fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out of the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has confirmed.

Bumrah, who was initially named in India’s 15-man squad for the tournament, had been undergoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) for a back injury sustained during the final day of the recent Sydney Test against Australia. Despite ongoing treatment, the pace spearhead has failed to recover in time for the competition.

Jaiswal Left Out as Chakaravarthy Gets the Nod

The 23-year-old fast bowler Harshit Rana has been selected as Bumrah’s replacement in the final squad.

In a surprise decision, young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal has been left out of the squad, with 33-year-old mystery spinner Varun Chakaravarthy taking his place.

A statement from the BCCI read:

"Fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out of the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy due to a lower back injury. The Men’s Selection Committee has named Harshit Rana as Bumrah’s replacement. Team India have also included Varun Chakaravarthy in the squad, with the spinner replacing Yashasvi Jaiswal, who was initially named in the provisional squad."
