In January, Real Betis secured the loan signing of Antony from Manchester United, and the winger has made a strong start to life in La Liga. He was named Man of the Match on his debut against Athletic Club and scored his first goal for the club in Saturday’s 3-2 defeat to Celta Vigo.

Antony endured a difficult start to the season with Manchester United, but he appears to have revitalised his form since joining Betis. So far, the move has benefitted all parties, although an extended stay remains uncertain, as there was no loan extension clause or purchase option included in the agreement.

Nevertheless, Real Betis CEO Ramón Alarcón has confirmed that the possibility of keeping Antony beyond this season remains open. Speaking to Radio Sevilla (via Mundo Deportivo), he stated:

"I think so. The other day, the CEO of United called me. We sent them all the video clips and performance details from the week so they could see that we are taking care of their asset. There is very good chemistry with Manchester United and with the player. It is a possibility that he could continue next season—why not?"

January Reinforcements at Real Betis

During the winter transfer window, Antony was joined at Betis by Colombian striker Juan ‘Cucho’ Hernández, who arrived on deadline day in a big-money move from MLS side Columbus Crew.

Alarcón expressed his satisfaction at addressing two key positions that had been problematic for Betis in the first half of the season:

"We were told that the priority was a right winger and then the issue of the striker—it was publicly stated. We met those needs. Of course, things can always be done better, but we ended the winter market with enthusiasm and reasonable satisfaction.

"We have €48,000 left from a squad limit of €108 million. Betis aim to invest absolutely everything on the pitch."
