Google Calendar has removed cultural event start dates, citing scalability issues, amid a shifting US political climate under Trump's return.

Google Calendar no longer displays the start dates for events such as Black History Month, Pride Month, and Women's History Month. Previously, these dates were marked in early February, March, and June, but they are absent from the 2025 calendar.

A Google spokesperson stated that the changes had been planned for months.

"Some years ago, the Calendar team started manually adding a broader set of cultural moments in a wide number of countries around the world," the spokesperson explained in an email to CNBC.

In response to feedback, the company reconsidered its approach. "We got feedback that some other events and countries were missing — and maintaining hundreds of moments manually and consistently globally wasn’t scalable or sustainable," the spokesperson added.

The move comes amid a shifting political climate in the US with the return of Donald Trump as president. Since his election, Google has made several adjustments, including dropping its diversity hiring goals and renaming the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America in Maps for US users.
