A vessel carrying 65 passengers capsized near Libya. Pakistan's embassy is investigating potential Pakistani victims. This follows recent migrant tragedies, including 80 deaths near Morocco. Authorities are responding, highlighting ongoing human smuggling concerns.

A vessel carrying approximately 65 passengers capsized on Monday near Marsa Dela port, Libya, as reported by Dawn Newspaper. The Pakistani Foreign Office has stated that its embassy in Tripoli is actively working to gather information regarding any “Pakistani affectees” involved in the incident.

This tragedy comes on the heels of another devastating event last month when 80 passengers drowned near Morocco. Among them, 13 deaths were confirmed, while over 40 individuals were reportedly murdered by human traffickers, underscoring the dangers faced by migrants seeking safer shores.

In response to the recent capsizing, the Pakistani embassy has dispatched a team to Zawiya hospital to collaborate with local authorities in identifying the deceased. Additionally, the Crisis Management Unit of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been activated to closely monitor developments and coordinate assistance where necessary.

Just last week, authorities in Libya recovered the bodies of 29 migrants, further emphasizing the ongoing humanitarian crisis. Libya remains a major transit point for migrants fleeing conflict and economic hardship, despite the significant risks associated with such journeys. Previous maritime tragedies have prompted heightened scrutiny and the implementation of stricter screening measures at Pakistani airports to curb human smuggling and prevent further loss of life.
