Two business jets collided on the runway at Scottsdale Airport, prompting an investigation by the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Authorities are working to determine the cause of the crash and assess the extent of the damage and injuries.

Two private jets collided on the runway of Scottsdale Airport in Arizona on Monday, resulting in at least one fatality and multiple injuries, officials reported.

According to the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the incident occurred at approximately 2:45 p.m. local time (2145 UTC) when a Learjet 35A veered off the runway after landing and crashed into a Gulfstream 200 business jet stationed on the ramp at Scottsdale Municipal Airport.

Scottsdale Fire Department Captain Dave Folio confirmed that at least four people sustained injuries in the crash. The FAA has yet to determine the total number of individuals aboard both aircraft at the time of the collision.

Among the injured, two were transported to trauma centers, while another, who was in stable condition, was taken to a hospital, Folio stated. One individual remained trapped inside one of the jets, and rescue teams were actively working to extricate and save the person. "We're doing everything we can to extricate and save the one soul that's still on board," Folio added.

The cause of the Learjet's deviation from the runway has not yet been determined. The FAA has launched an investigation into the crash and has temporarily halted flights into Scottsdale Airport.

Scottsdale Airport is a major hub for private jets, particularly during large sporting events in the Phoenix area.

This incident adds to a recent string of major aviation accidents in the United States. In late January, a passenger jet collided midair with a US Army Black Hawk helicopter over Washington, D.C., resulting in 67 fatalities. Days later, a medical jet crashed in Philadelphia, killing seven people. Last week, another plane crash in Alaska claimed the lives of 10 individuals.
