Turkish Agency TIKA Renovates Rehabilitation Centre for Young Women in Uganda
Türkiye's state-run aid agency, TIKA, has completed the renovation and equipping of a training and rehabilitation center for young women in Buikwe, located in eastern Uganda.
The center provides various services, including business skills training for women and girls, vocational education, reintegration support, and psychosocial assistance for individuals in need of rehabilitation.
As part of the project, TIKA supplied 25 sewing machines and fabrics for apparel production, water tanks, and other rehabilitation-related items.
During an event on Tuesday, TIKA's country coordinator, Murat Cetin, explained that the project aims to enhance the quality of rehabilitation services, broaden access, and ensure the long-term sustainability of the center.
"This is a critical project," Cetin said. "We are eager to improve people's access to a wide range of rehabilitation services. This initiative, which was brought to our attention by the area's woman member of parliament, Diana Mutasingwa, has been made possible thanks to the support of the Turkish people through TIKA. We are committed to ensuring that this investment is both sustainable and successful in the long run."
The renovations have given the center a modern appearance, creating a safer and cleaner environment for its beneficiaries.
Diana Mutasingwa, the woman member of parliament for Buikwe and state minister in the vice president’s office, expressed gratitude for the Turkish aid agency’s steadfast support for Ugandans. She emphasized the importance of continued collaboration to foster economic growth and social progress in Uganda.
