South Africa Relaxes Visa Rules for Nigerian Businesses and Tourists
South Africa has made its visa application process more accessible for Nigerian nationals, facilitating easier acquisition of visas for business and tourism purposes, according to President Cyril Ramaphosa. He highlighted that qualifying Nigerian businesspeople are now eligible for a five-year multiple-entry visa, simplifying travel for business purposes. Speaking at the 11th session of the Nigeria-South Africa Bi-National Commission, Ramaphosa emphasized that these measures are designed to strengthen economic ties between the two nations. He also noted that prospective travelers can now apply for visas without needing to submit their passports along with their applications.
Nigeria's President Bola Tinubu reaffirmed his commitment to removing obstacles to investment and resolving challenges faced by South African businesses operating in Nigeria. Tinubu stressed the importance of leveraging the partnership to enhance economic, political, and interpersonal relationships between the two countries, emphasizing the significant benefits this collaboration promises.
Both countries engaged in discussions on regional and global issues, focusing on the challenges confronting developing nations. Ramaphosa pledged to prioritize Africa's development and advocate for the interests of the Global South during South Africa's upcoming G20 presidency. On Tuesday, South Africa also assured Nigeria of its support in securing G20 membership.
As the first African country to lead the G20, South Africa officially assumed its presidency on Sunday. Ramaphosa affirmed that South Africa would strongly back Nigeria, stating, “We have been a lone member of the G20. We shall need to raise the voice of Africa, which has been neglected.”
