The Pork Pie Roundabout Has Been Targeted By The Animal Rights Group For Promoting: "The Needless Slaughter Of Beautiful Animals".

The animal rights group PETA's UK branch has called for Leicester to rename one of it's roundabouts named after a famous dish in the county, stating: "This is not a pie in the sky request".

The Pork Pie Roundabout was named after the popular pies consumed by millions of people across the county and country, but PETA wants the roundabout to be renamed to Vegan Roundabout in honour of the term Vegan being coined in Leicester during the second World War by Donald Watson.

They claim that it would be: "A great way to celebrate the pie loving heritage of Leicester, whilst also rejecting the needless slaughter of beautiful animals used to make Pork Pies".

PETA's complaints have been met with mass ridicule and laughter being pointed at the animal rights organization, with Leicester Mayor, Sir Peter Soulsby, calling the request: "The funniest joke I've heard in years".

PETA UK's senior campaign manager Kate Werner argues that: "Eating a varied plant based diet has been shown to prevent heart disease, diabetes, unnecessary weight gain, and cancer.

Vibrant vegan foods also have less saturated fat, fewer calories, and less cholesterol than their meaty counterparts.

Encouraging people to eat plant based foods could also help lessen the burden on Leicester's already overstretched NHS.

The United Nations has started a global shift towards plant based eating, warning a change is needed in diets to combat the worst effects of the climate catastrophe, so this name change would be a fantastic way to support Leicester's climate emergency strategy.

Since the word vegan originated in this very part of England in 1944, it would also be a great way to celebrate the city's vegan heritage.

The vegan pie category attracted the most entries at the British Pie Awards last year, proof that more and more people are choosing plant based foods.

Eating vegan helps spare sensitive and intelligent animals a lifetime of suffering, you can help stop this cruelty with a name change that will inspire residents to choose vegan foods.

There's never been a better time to stop going around in circles, and to take a bite out of Leicester's dangerous obesity crisis".

Regardless if what PETA says is true, or vegan supremacist cringe, they're still the county wide laughing stock in Leicester.
