Former head coach of Chelsea and Bayern Munich, Thomas Tuchel, has allegedly signed a contract to take on the role of England's new manager.

Former Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel has officially signed a contract to become the new manager of the England men's national team, as reported by Sky Sports News on Tuesday.

Tuchel, a German national, is poised to become the third foreign manager to oversee the England men's team, following in the footsteps of Sweden's Sven-Goran Eriksson and Italy's Fabio Capello.

The 51-year-old coach, who famously guided Chelsea to the Champions League title in 2021, will take over from interim manager Lee Carsley. This change comes three months after Gareth Southgate stepped down from his position following England's defeat to Spain in the final of the European Championship in July.

Having been without a managerial role since his departure from Bayern Munich at the conclusion of last season, Tuchel is eager to embark on this new journey. During his time at Bayern, the club finished third in the Bundesliga, trailing Bayer Leverkusen and VfB Stuttgart.

Tuchel has built a reputation as a forward-thinking tactician, initially rising to prominence in the Bundesliga. He began his managerial career at Mainz 05 in 2009, succeeding Jurgen Klopp. After Klopp's exit from Borussia Dortmund at the end of the 2014-15 season, Tuchel took over the reins there as well, leading the team to victory in the German Cup in 2017.

In 2018, he joined Paris Saint-Germain, replacing Unai Emery, and achieved back-to-back French league titles. Under his leadership, PSG made history by reaching their first Champions League final in 2020, though they were ultimately defeated by Bayern Munich. Following his tenure at PSG, Tuchel moved on to Chelsea.

Taking the helm of the England national team presents a new challenge for Tuchel, who is now tasked with the mission of securing the first major trophy for the national team since England won the World Cup on home soil in 1966.

The Football Association of England is scheduled to hold a news conference at Wembley on Wednesday, featuring chief executive Mark Bullingham, where further details about Tuchel’s appointment may be discussed.
