Ducati’s Francesco Bagnaia set a sensational new lap record at Misano, securing his second MotoGP pole position at the circuit in two weeks, ahead of championship rival Jorge Martin.

Bagnaia’s final lap of 1:30.031 was enough to snatch pole position from Pramac’s Martin, who had earlier also broken the lap record during the session.

It was Martin who initially set the pace – establishing a new lap record of 1:30.245 on his first flying lap to lead the timesheets.

In the closing minutes of qualifying, it became clear that the battle for pole would be between the two championship frontrunners. However, it was Bagnaia who produced a stunning lap of 1:30.031 to take pole, 0.214 seconds ahead of Martin, who secured second place.

Enea Bastianini finished third, completing an all-GP24 front row, with his time putting him 0.533 seconds behind his teammate Bagnaia.

Brad Binder, who progressed through Q1, took fourth place, salvaging what had appeared to be a challenging weekend for Red Bull KTM. He leads the second row ahead of rookie Pedro Acosta.

Marco Bezzecchi rounds out the second row in sixth place and will start ahead of Gresini’s Marc Marquez, who crashed after setting his first lap time and was unable to improve.

Maverick Viñales will start from eighth, ahead of former teammate Fabio Quartararo on the Yamaha, while Franco Morbidelli rounded out the top ten.

Aprilia’s Aleix Espargaro qualified 11th, just ahead of Miguel Oliveira, with both riders finishing Q2 a second adrift of Bagnaia’s pole time.

VR46’s Fabio Di Giannantonio narrowly missed out on Q2 despite carrying an injury and will start 13th on the grid, ahead of Trackhouse’s Raul Fernandez.

Luca Marini led the Repsol Honda pair, starting 15th ahead of Joan Mir in 16th.

Johann Zarco will start 17th, ahead of Augusto Fernandez, who crashed whilst attempting to improve his lap time in Q1.

Jack Miller endured a nightmare qualifying session, finishing down in 19th and heading the seventh row of the grid. He will be joined by Takaaki Nakagami and Alex Marquez, who crashed at Turn 1 after his first flying lap.

Despite participating in the final practice session, Alex Rins did not take part in qualifying. Should he compete for the remainder of the weekend, the Yamaha rider will start last on the grid.
