Australian field hockey player Tom Craig is under suspicion of purchasing cocaine from a dealer in central Paris. The International Olympic Committee has chosen not to comment on the matter.

Reuters has reported that an Australian hockey player has been arrested in Paris on suspicion of purchasing cocaine, according to the public prosecutor's office.

Tom Craig, aged 28, last participated in his team's quarterfinal loss to the Netherlands at the 2024 Olympics.

The alleged transaction occurred in the ninth arrondissement of Paris, near an apartment building. Police officers reportedly apprehended Craig and a 17-year-old suspected dealer. Craig, whose identity has not been officially released, was said to have been in possession of one gram of cocaine at the time of his arrest.

The Paris prosecutor's office indicated that the alleged deal occurred on the night between August 6 and 7. Local police arrested both the seller, born in December 2006, and the buyer, born in September 1995 in Australia.

Craig was born on September 3, 1995.

The Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) has confirmed that an Australian hockey team member is currently in custody, though no formal charges have been filed yet.

"The AOC is continuing to make inquiries and arrange support for the team member," the committee stated.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) chose not to comment on the arrest during its daily press conference.
