If Selena Gomez ever gets married, she’s doing it as herself!

Regardless of what the future holds, the singer and actress, 32, has no intention of relinquishing her last name, she revealed in her new Vanity Fair cover story published on Monday, 9th September.

While discussing her relationship with Benny Blanco — and whether she envisions marriage with him — Gomez disclosed that neither she nor her family are pressuring the producer and cookbook author into tying the knot.

She and Blanco, 36, “always make sure we’re protecting what we have, but there are no rules,” she told the magazine.

“I want him to always be himself,” she added. “I always want to be myself.”

Being herself, she explained, includes retaining her name, which she has used since her career began on Barney & Friends over two decades ago — and which is closely tied to her career, from Wizards of Waverly Place to Rare Beauty.

“I’m not changing my name no matter what,” she told Vanity Fair. “I am Selena Gomez. That’s it.”

The star of Only Murders in the Building did not explicitly hint at marriage to Blanco, but she did tell the magazine that she has “never been loved this way.”

“He’s just been a light. A complete light in my life,” she said of the producer, whom she began dating after years of friendship in July 2023.

“He’s my best friend,” she added. “I love telling him everything.”

Blanco, however, has expressed a desire to see marriage in the couple’s future — and Gomez addressed his comments while speaking with Vanity Fair.

“He can’t lie,” she said of the producer, who joked that he’s “gotta get my act together” before proposing on The Howard Stern Show in May. "After the interview, I was dying laughing. Like, ‘Anything else you wanted to put out there?’”

Blanco not only teased marriage while appearing on The Howard Stern Show — he also echoed Gomez’s Vanity Fair comments about the pair being each other’s “best friend.”

The producer described the actress — whom he called “the coolest, nicest, sweetest” — as “truly my best friend.”

Gomez’s Vanity Fair cover story also follows her discussion of how they spend time together, revealing that cooking with her partner really “grounds her.”

"I love fresh foods and stuff. I'm starting to get into that kind of thing because of my boyfriend," she said at a Rare Beauty virtual event on 4th September. “Just being in the garden and picking food that I’m going to be able to cook with.”

"It sounds so silly and minor but the older you get the more you realise that it’s OK to just be simple and enjoy simplicity," she added.
