Mali Army Eliminates 23 Terrorists in Separate Operations
The Malian army has eliminated 23 terrorists in the south-central Mopti Region over the past two days, according to an official statement released on Tuesday.
On Monday, Malian Armed Forces (FAMa) conducted an operation in Doro village, located in the Mopti Region, killing three terrorists and confiscating weapons and equipment, the statement noted.
Earlier, on Sunday, the air force carried out a strike in Berdosso village near Badiangara town in the same region, resulting in the death of 20 terrorists. Additionally, two terrorist trucks carrying logistical equipment were destroyed in the northern Timbuktu Region the same day, the statement added.
The armed forces reiterated their commitment to combating terrorist groups. While the statement did not specify which groups were targeted in these operations, several militant and separatist groups are active in the region.
On December 3, 2024, five armed separatist groups announced the formation of the Azawad Liberation Front (FLA), an alliance seeking independence for parts of northern Mali. The alliance includes the High Council for Azawad Unity (HCUA), the National Movement for Azawad Liberation (MNLA), and factions of the Azawad Arab Movement (MAA) and the Imghad Tuareg Self-Defence Group and Allies (GATIA).
The Malian government has labeled these groups, along with al-Qaida-linked Jama’a Nusrat ul-Islam wa al-Muslimin (JNIM) and the Macina Liberation Front (FLM), as terrorist organizations.
