The Ogun State Police Command has uncovered human body parts hidden inside buildings masquerading as parishes of the Cherubim and Seraphim Church in Kobape town and along Abiola Way in Abeokuta, the state capital. This discovery followed the arrest of three individuals: Sunday Akintobi, Oladimeji Olaniran, and Isaiah Tijani. The suspects were apprehended on April 22, 2025, in different areas of Abeokuta, allegedly found in possession of various human body parts.
Omolola Odutola, the spokesperson for the command, revealed the details of the discovery in an exclusive interview with PUNCH Online on Friday. She disclosed that the arrests were carried out by operatives from the command’s Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) unit, acting on credible intelligence.
According to Odutola, on April 22, 2025, at approximately 8:00 AM, SWAT operatives acted on information and arrested one Sunday Akintobi, a 36-year-old male residing in the Itoku area of Abeokuta. Akintobi was suspected of being involved in the illicit trade of human body parts. Further investigation led to the arrest of two additional suspects: Oladimeji Olaniran, a 40-year-old male, and Isaiah Tijani, a 38-year-old male. A search of their residences resulted in the recovery of body parts believed to be human remains.
Among the items recovered were skeletal bones and various body parts, which were discovered inside buildings that had been falsely presenting themselves as places of worship. These buildings were identified as Cherubim and Seraphim Churches, located in Kobape town and along Abiola Way.
In response to the disturbing discovery, the state’s Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, has directed the State Criminal Investigation Department to carry out a thorough and discreet investigation to fully determine the extent of the suspects’ involvement in the illicit activities. Odutola emphasized that the police force, as a friendly entity, encourages the public not to protect criminal elements and to provide timely, credible information to assist security agencies. She stressed that such cooperation is vital in addressing ritual killings and other violent crimes in the state.
Odutola further noted that CP Ogunlowo, who remains steadfast in his commitment to combating crime, has ordered expert forensic examinations in connection with the suspects' confessions. Additionally, he urged relatives of deceased individuals to ensure the proper security of their loved ones' graves to prevent grave robbing. Odutola concluded by emphasizing the importance of taking extra precautions to safeguard graves and prevent any future incidents of this nature.
