Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that three senior Real Madrid players will leave the club at the end of the season, while fresh reports in Spain and France have cast serious doubt over the long-term future of Kylian Mbappé at the Santiago Bernabéu.
Real Madrid Reach Major Kylian Mbappé Decision as Triple Exit Confirmed
The developments come amid a major restructuring at Real Madrid following the return of José Mourinho, who is set to begin a second spell in charge of the Spanish giants.
Romano confirmed on Monday that Mourinho had agreed an initial two-year contract with the club, with president Florentino Pérez reportedly convinced the veteran coach possesses the authority, experience and personality required to restore discipline and competitiveness within the dressing room.
Three Senior Players Set to Depart
According to Romano, Mourinho will begin his new era without three experienced members of the current squad.
Club captain Dani Carvajal is set to leave upon the expiry of his contract, with his departure already officially confirmed by Real Madrid.
Defender David Alaba is also expected to depart on a free transfer at the conclusion of the campaign.
Meanwhile, midfielder Dani Ceballos is reportedly set to be sold, with one year remaining on his current deal.
Romano added that several clubs are monitoring Ceballos’ situation, including Marseille, Real Betis and Ajax.
Mbappé’s Future Suddenly Uncertain
Alongside the squad changes, growing concerns are reportedly emerging internally over Mbappé’s role within the team.
The France international arrived in Madrid amid expectations he would lead the club into a new era of dominance following his high-profile departure from Paris Saint-Germain.
Although Mbappé has scored an impressive 85 goals in two seasons, Real Madrid have struggled to replicate their previous success both domestically and in Europe.
Barcelona, managed by Hansi Flick, have dominated Spanish football in recent seasons, securing consecutive La Liga titles.
More concerning for Real Madrid has been their decline in the UEFA Champions League.
Prior to Mbappé’s arrival, Los Blancos had lifted two Champions League trophies in three years. Since then, they have failed to progress beyond the quarter-finals, while PSG have flourished on the European stage.
Reports from both AS and L’Equipe now claim Mbappé is no longer considered “untouchable” by senior figures at Real Madrid.
Spanish outlet AS suggested the club could consider drastic action should concerns over the player’s attitude and behaviour continue.
The report compared the situation to previous high-profile departures involving club legends Cristiano Ronaldo and Sergio Ramos, both of whom ultimately left despite their iconic status at the club.
Meanwhile, French publication L’Equipe claimed Real Madrid executives are privately questioning whether Mbappé and Vinícius Júnior can successfully coexist in the same attacking system.
While both players continue to produce goals and moments of quality, reports suggest concerns remain over the team’s balance — particularly defensively when possession is lost.
Criticism has reportedly intensified following a series of controversial incidents involving Mbappé, including social media activity, public interviews, training-ground tensions and visible frustration from supporters at the Bernabéu.
Despite the speculation, any potential move involving Mbappé would likely require a record-breaking transfer fee.
The current world-record transfer remains Neymar’s €222 million move from Barcelona to PSG in 2017.
Given Mbappé’s status as one of the world’s biggest football stars and his age profile, any possible exit from Madrid would almost certainly demand a similarly historic valuation.
