Aaron Rodgers will return for another season with Pittsburgh Steelers after officially signing a new one-year contract for the 2026 campaign.

The Steelers confirmed the agreement on Monday, securing Rodgers’ future well before first-year head coach Mike McCarthy had hoped to have the veteran quarterback available for mandatory minicamp in June.

According to multiple reports, the deal could be worth as much as $22 million.

Rodgers’ future in Pittsburgh had remained uncertain following the departure of long-serving head coach Mike Tomlin, who stepped down after the 2025 season.

The four-time NFL MVP previously admitted that Tomlin’s leadership played a major role in his decision to join the Steelers as an unrestricted free agent last year.

However, Rodgers is already highly familiar with McCarthy, having worked closely with him during a hugely successful spell together at Green Bay Packers between 2006 and 2018.

The pair famously guided the Packers to victory in Super Bowl XLV in 2011 — ironically defeating the Steelers in the process — with Rodgers earning Super Bowl MVP honours following the triumph.

Rodgers featured in all 16 games he played for Pittsburgh during the 2025 season, missing only one match because of a wrist injury.

The experienced quarterback completed 327 of 498 pass attempts, recording a completion rate of 65.7 per cent while throwing for 3,322 yards, 24 touchdowns and just seven interceptions.

Across a remarkable 21-season NFL career, Rodgers has established himself as one of the league’s greatest quarterbacks.

In 264 appearances — including 257 starts — he has completed 65.1 per cent of his passes for 66,274 yards, while registering 527 touchdowns against 123 interceptions.
