Nearly 200 households in Cape Town were evacuated due to a fire near Table Mountain. The fire, which started on Friday in Tokai, has been contained with no flare-ups by Monday. Only one firefighter was injured, and the cause remains unknown. Investigations are underway.

Nearly 200 households have been evacuated in the coastal city of Cape Town, South Africa, following a raging fire that began around the Table Mountains on Friday. Jermaine Carelse, the City of Cape Town’s spokesperson for Fire and Rescue, stated, "As a precautionary measure, Disaster Risk Management (DRM) assisted with evacuating 198 households from the Noordhoek Manor, including 48 frail care residents. The residents of Barnyard and Silwersteen have decided to evacuate."

The fire consumed much of the inaccessible areas of the mountain, prompting the Municipality to order the evacuation of hundreds of families to ensure their safety and prevent any loss of life. Firefighters are currently battling five separate fire fronts, with evacuations carried out in Steenberg Estate, Zwaanswyk, and Noordhoek Manor.

The fire started on Friday in an area known as Tokai, and by Monday morning, no further flare-ups had been reported, according to Carelse. The cause of the fire remains unknown, though only one injury, involving a firefighter, has been reported. Authorities have confirmed that investigations into the cause of the fire will be conducted.
