Namibia's President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has dismissed Agriculture Minister Mac-Albert Hengari following his arrest. The presidency issued a statement on X, stating that the President used the authority granted by Article 32(6) of the Constitution of Namibia to relieve Hengari of his responsibilities as Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Land Reform.
The decision took effect on April 23, the date when Hengari should have submitted his resignation. In addition to his dismissal from the ministerial position, Hengari was also removed from parliament.
Hengari, who was appointed in March, was arrested on Saturday and is facing multiple charges, including rape, gender-based violence, and kidnapping, as reported by local broadcaster NBC.
