On Easter Sunday, German police were still searching for the shooter or shooters responsible for a double killing in the western town of Bad Nauheim, which occurred the evening before. The suspect shot and killed two people at a residential address in the town on Saturday evening. Bad Nauheim is located about 35 kilometers (approximately 22 miles) north of Germany's financial capital, Frankfurt.

The victims were identified as a 59-year-old man and his 28-year-old son-in-law. Both were Turkish nationals. According to the police, the victims had not been previously known to them. Authorities have not ruled out the possibility of more than one suspect being involved in the crime.

In response to the incident, German special forces (SEK) have been involved, with a helicopter also assisting in the ongoing manhunt. German daily Bild reported that two men were arrested in the nearby town of Nidderau-Erbstadt after the shooting, but they were later released when it was determined that they had no connection to the crime.

Authorities believe that a "personal motive" may have been behind the killings, and they have reassured the public that there is no ongoing danger. Local news outlet Hessenschau also reported that residents had been advised not to pick up hitchhikers in the area.

On Sunday, the local government in Bad Nauheim expressed its condolences online, stating, "Our thoughts are with the victims and their families." The post continued, "Despite the impact of the tragic act on our holiday today, let us remember that Easter is a powerful symbol of hope and renewal. Let's take the opportunity to remember the power of new beginnings, especially in challenging times."
