The ongoing operations in all five Darfur states have seen significant developments in recent days. Earlier this week, the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) claimed to have taken control of the Zamzam refugee camp in El-Fasher after fierce clashes with Sudanese army forces. According to figures provided by the United Nations, at least 400 civilians have lost their lives, and nearly 400,000 people have been displaced due to the ongoing fighting in the region.
The conflict between the RSF and the Sudanese army, which began on April 15, 2023, has escalated into a full-scale battle for control of the country, leading to thousands of deaths and resulting in one of the world’s most severe humanitarian crises.
As reported by both the United Nations and local authorities, more than 20,000 people have been killed, and 15 million others have been displaced as a result of the violence. However, research conducted by scholars from the United States estimates the actual death toll to be significantly higher, reaching approximately 130,000.
