Kano Man Remanded for Stabbing Neighbor Over Electricity Bill

A Kano Sharia Court remanded Abduljabar Nura for stabbing his neighbor over an electricity bill dispute. He pleaded guilty, and sentencing is set for April 15.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), a Sharia Court in Kano State on Wednesday ordered that a 29-year-old man, Abduljabar Nura, be remanded in a correctional centre for stabbing his neighbor over an electricity bill.

The police charged Mr. Nura, who resides in Fagge Quarters in Kano, with causing grievous hurt. When the charge was read to him in court, he pleaded guilty to the offence.

Presiding over the case, Judge Umar Lawal-Abubakar directed that the defendant be remanded at the Goron Dutse Correctional Centre in Kano. The judge scheduled April 15 for sentencing.

During the hearing, the prosecution counsel, Zahradeen Abubakar, informed the court that the case was reported at the Fagge police station on February 28 by the complainant, Haruna Kasim. According to the prosecution, the defendant and Mr. Kasim had a dispute regarding an electricity bill, which escalated into violence.

The police stated that during the altercation, the defendant stabbed the complainant in the back with a pair of scissors.
