Mohamed Salah admitted that Arne Slot had plenty to say at half-time as Liverpool staged a spirited second-half comeback to defeat Southampton.

A defensive lapse saw the Reds trailing at the break against the Premier League’s bottom club, but Salah and his teammates responded emphatically, securing a 3-1 victory.

Salah was instrumental in the turnaround, scoring twice from the penalty spot after Darwin Núñez had equalised in the 51st minute. The win extends Liverpool’s lead at the top of the table to 16 points ahead of Arsenal’s crucial clash with Manchester United tomorrow.

Despite the positive outcome, Slot was far from pleased at half-time and made his feelings clear to the squad.

Speaking in his post-match interview, Salah shed light on the manager’s half-time message: *“There was a bit of frustration. His head was going for us.

"We were sloppy and slow in the first half. I don’t think we played well today. If you want to win the Champions League or Premier League, you have to win these kinds of games.”

The victory at Anfield capped off another strong week for Liverpool, following their impressive 1-0 win against Paris Saint-Germain in the first leg of their Champions League round-of-16 tie in Paris.

Harvey Elliott, who made an instant impact with a late winner in midweek, once again proved influential from the bench against Southampton. However, the young midfielder remained level-headed despite Liverpool’s latest triumph.

Speaking after the match, Elliott reflected on his role: *“In my eyes, it’s just my job to come on and influence the game where I can.

*"The last two matches have been very tough—it’s not about me, it’s about the whole team. It was an intense game, and given the travel, we only had one day to prepare. Hats off to Southampton—they made it difficult throughout.

"We just need to keep winning. It’s as simple as that. We have to take it one game at a time and ensure we apply ourselves in the best possible way.”
