Liverpool secured a dramatic 1-0 victory against Paris Saint-Germain in the first leg of their heavyweight Champions League last-16 tie on Wednesday, while Bayern Munich asserted their dominance with a commanding 3-0 win over Bayer Leverkusen.
Liverpool’s Late Winner Stuns PSG as Bayern Dominate Leverkusen

PSG, the Ligue 1 leaders, controlled much of the contest at the Parc des Princes but failed to make their dominance count. Substitute Harvey Elliott struck the decisive goal three minutes from time, converting Liverpool’s only shot on target after replacing Mohamed Salah.
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia had earlier seen a goal ruled out for offside, but Arne Slot’s side defended resolutely to frustrate Luis Enrique’s men and put themselves in a strong position ahead of next week’s return leg at Anfield.
Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker was instrumental in securing the result, producing several crucial saves as PSG registered 28 attempts on goal but failed to convert their chances—despite scoring 21 goals in their previous five Champions League matches.
“It was probably the performance of my life,” Alisson told TNT Sports.
Slot acknowledged the fortunate nature of the result, adding: “To come away with a win here was probably more than we deserved.”
If Liverpool complete the job at Anfield next Tuesday, they could face Aston Villa in the quarter-finals. However, PSG boss Luis Enrique remains optimistic, insisting his side still have everything to play for.
“We clearly deserved to win. We created a lot of chances,” said the Spaniard. “Football is unfair at times, but you have to accept it.”
Bayern Take Control Against Leverkusen
Meanwhile, Harry Kane scored twice as Bayern Munich edged closer to the quarter-finals, securing their first victory over Xabi Alonso’s Leverkusen in seven matches.
The England captain opened the scoring at the Allianz Arena, heading home Michael Olise’s pinpoint cross.
Jamal Musiala doubled Bayern’s advantage early in the second half, capitalising on a costly error from Leverkusen goalkeeper Matej Kovář, who failed to gather an innocuous delivery from Joshua Kimmich.
Bayern then suffered a setback as Manuel Neuer was forced off through injury. Leverkusen’s night went from bad to worse when Nordi Mukiele received a straight red card.
Kane sealed the victory from the penalty spot following a VAR review, after being impeded by Edmond Tapsoba.
“It was a really big step in the right direction. We’ve struggled against this side in recent years,” Kane told DAZN.
Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso admitted his team now faces an uphill battle to progress.
“Football has seen plenty of miracles—we need one,” he said.
