The Nigeria Police Force on Wednesday arrested 20 suspected criminals during a raid on their hideout in Taraba State. The operation led to the recovery of various weapons and other exhibits.
The Force spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi, disclosed this in a statement, adding that one of the 10 suspected kidnappers who abducted three individuals from a palace in Oyo State on Monday was also apprehended, and the victims were successfully rescued.
Mr. Adejobi stated, “In Taraba State, police operatives acting on credible intelligence successfully stormed a criminal hideout in the Wamunchi dry season rice farms on February 26, 2025. The operation resulted in the recovery of one AK-47 rifle, seven rounds of live ammunition, the arrest of twenty (20) male suspects, and the recovery of one motorcycle, three Dane guns, and a bow and arrow.”
He further noted that the arrested suspects had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation, where they were currently being profiled.
Providing additional updates on recent police operations, Mr. Adejobi addressed a reported abduction at Agede Village, Moniya, Ibadan, Oyo State, which occurred on February 25, 2025. According to him, the incident prompted a swift response from the tactical teams of the Oyo State Police Command, working in collaboration with local security outfits.
He stated that the coordinated efforts led to the safe rescue of the three victims—Olori Hakimat Sadia, a 50-year-old female; Olori Rakyat, a 45-year-old female; and Monsuru Ganiyu, a 20-year-old male. The trio had been abducted from the palace of Baale Tajudeen Inaolaji on February 24, 2025, by 10 armed men. One of the suspected kidnappers was arrested during the operation.
The police statement also highlighted efforts to rescue Afenifere Youth Leader, Eniola Ojajuni, who was kidnapped on February 17, 2025, while traveling to Abuja. In response to this, the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has deployed the Federal Intelligence Department (FID) – Intelligence Response Team (IRT) tactical team to ensure the safe recovery of the abducted youth leader.
The Inspector-General of Police emphasized that the bravery and swift response of the operatives reflected the police force’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of Nigerian citizens.
Additionally, the police urged members of the public to refrain from engaging in social media speculation or sharing unverified information regarding the ongoing rescue operations. They warned that such actions could compromise the effectiveness of police efforts and potentially endanger the safety of those still in captivity.
