Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has finalised a record-breaking transfer for Celtic target Mason Melia.

The Premier League club has agreed a record fee with St Patrick’s Athletic for a League of Ireland player, securing Melia’s services from 1st January 2026.

Melia, who turns 18 in September, was identified as a potential signing by Celtic last month, with club officials reportedly monitoring his progress. However, despite their interest, Spurs were always in pole position to land the talented forward, even after an initial £1 million bid was rejected by St Pat’s.

Postecoglou’s side reached an agreement with St Pat’s in the final days of the transfer window, allowing Melia to sign a five-year contract that will commence in January next year. Until then, the striker will remain with St Pat’s to continue his development.

Melia holds the record as both the youngest-ever player and goalscorer for St Pat’s, having broken his own record twice at the age of 15.

The highly rated forward has netted 10 goals in 54 appearances for the Irish club and received his first call-up to the Republic of Ireland Under-21 squad in October.

A statement from St Pat’s confirmed: “St Patrick’s Athletic can confirm that we have agreed the transfer of Mason Melia to Tottenham Hotspur for an undisclosed fee, which represents a record transfer for a League of Ireland player.

Mason, who turns 18 in September, will remain at Richmond Park for the 2025 League of Ireland season before joining Tottenham on 1st January 2026.”
