Patrick Dorgu has been named in Lecce’s squad for Friday evening’s crucial relegation battle against Parma, despite ongoing speculation surrounding his imminent move to Manchester United.
Major Patrick Dorgu Decision Confirmed Before Manchester United Medical as Transfer Delay Explained
Dorgu is expected to complete his transfer to Old Trafford before the end of the window. However, according to TBR Football, United have approved his request to feature for Lecce against Parma. Although the 19-year-old has started each of Lecce’s last 18 Serie A matches, he was named on the bench for this encounter—suggesting his move to United is edging closer.
Despite his impending transfer, Dorgu was determined to take part in the match, whether as a starter or substitute, to help Lecce in their fight to avoid relegation. Lecce currently sit 18th in Serie A, inside the drop zone, level on points with 16th-placed Parma, having won just one of their last six fixtures. The battle at the bottom remains incredibly tight, with only two points separating 13th-placed Como and Lecce. Venezia, in 19th, are four points adrift, while bottom-placed Monza trail by seven.
Following Lecce’s trip to Parma—scheduled for a 7:45 pm UK time kick-off—Dorgu is expected to travel to England for his medical ahead of completing a £30 million move to United. With the transfer deadline set for 11 pm on Monday, United still have time to finalise the deal, but the window is closing fast.
Dorgu has made 57 appearances for Lecce since joining from Danish side Nordsjælland in 2022 and has earned four caps for Denmark.
Former teammate Fabio Lucioni, who played alongside Dorgu before leaving Lecce in the summer of 2023, shared his thoughts on the youngster’s move to Old Trafford.
Speaking to TMW, he said:
"I would have already bought him a plane ticket. I say this in a positive way because he is a young player who has made significant progress in the youth system.
He has demonstrated that he can compete at a higher level than what he has experienced at Lecce. So, it is only right that he takes this step forward."
