The Premier League club, currently leading the standings at the halfway point of the season, is privately owned by Fenway Sports Group (FSG), who have yet to receive any formal approaches for the club.
Elon Musk Shows Interest in Purchasing Liverpool Football Club, Father Reveals
Elon Musk has shown interest in purchasing English football club Liverpool, according to statements made by his father, Errol Musk. Liverpool is currently privately owned by Fenway Sports Group (FSG), who have not expressed any intention of selling the club but have been open to external investment in the past.
In an interview with Times Radio, Errol Musk confirmed that his son, the CEO of Tesla, has considered buying the six-time European Cup champions. However, he made it clear that this does not necessarily mean a purchase is imminent. "Oh yes, but that doesn't mean he's buying it,” Errol Musk said. “He would like to, yes, obviously, anybody would want to. So would I.”
He also noted that he couldn't provide further details on the matter, adding, “I can’t comment on that. They’ll raise the price.”
When contacted by The Associated Press, a spokesperson for FSG denied the rumors, stating that there was “No truth to these rumours.”
In September 2023, FSG sold a minority stake in the club to U.S. investment firm Dynasty Equity. FSG president Mike Gordon emphasized at the time that their commitment to Liverpool remains strong, saying, “Our long-term commitment to Liverpool remains as strong as ever. We have always said that if there is an investment partner that is right for Liverpool then we would pursue the opportunity to help ensure the club’s long-term financial resiliency and future growth.”
Under the ownership of FSG, Liverpool has successfully re-established itself as one of Europe’s top football clubs. In 2020, the club clinched its first English league title in 30 years, following their Champions League victory the previous season. Currently, Liverpool is at the top of both the Premier League and Champions League standings.
Errol Musk also shared that his family has relatives in Liverpool and that they were fortunate to know several members of The Beatles, who grew up in close proximity to his family.
In addition to his interest in football, Elon Musk has recently become more involved in British politics. Since the election of the centre-left Labour Party in July, Musk has used his social media platform, X, to call for a new election. On Monday, Labour leader Keir Starmer responded to Musk’s criticisms by condemning “lies and misinformation” that, according to Starmer, are undermining British democracy.
