Ukraine launched an attack on an oil depot that supplies a military airfield in the Russian city of Engels. This strike adds to the ongoing exchange of drone attacks between the two nations, as the war nears its fourth year.

On Wednesday, Ukraine reported that its forces had struck an oil depot used by the Russian air force, located hundreds of kilometers inside Russian territory. This attack is the latest in a series of increasing cross-border assaults targeting energy and military infrastructure on both sides.

The Ukrainian General Staff issued a statement, confirming that the Russian oil depot in Engels, located in the Saratov region, had been hit. The statement further explained that the destruction of the depot would create significant logistical challenges for the Russian strategic aviation forces, substantially weakening their ability to target Ukrainian cities and civilian infrastructure.

Oleksandr Kamyshin, a presidential advisor to Ukraine, stated that the attack was carried out using Ukrainian-made long-range capabilities.

Moscow later acknowledged the strike. The Russian Defense Ministry confirmed that 32 Ukrainian drones had been intercepted overnight, including 11 in the Saratov region. Local authorities in Saratov reported that the strikes caused large fires at an industrial site.

Residents of Engels shared on a Telegram chat that they had heard multiple explosions. Roman Busargin, the regional governor, assured the public on Telegram that there were enough resources available to contain the fires.

Meanwhile, Ukraine’s armed forces reported the downing of 63 Russian drones overnight. In the southern region of Kherson, Russian shelling resulted in at least two Ukrainian fatalities and five others wounded.
