Southampton have officially unveiled Ivan Juric as their new manager, with the 49-year-old Croatian tasked with steering the Saints out of the Premier League relegation zone.

Juric replaces Russell Martin, whose tenure was characterised by an attractive but error-prone possession-based style following the club’s promotion from the Championship. With the team currently nine points adrift of safety and languishing in 20th place with the league’s worst goal difference (-25), Juric faces an uphill battle.

Simon Rusk, Southampton’s U21 manager, is expected to oversee the team for their upcoming match against Fulham on Sunday. Juric will then take charge for a challenging festive period that includes fixtures against West Ham, Crystal Palace, and Brentford.

Juric, a former Croatian international with five caps, enjoyed a playing career that spanned clubs such as Hajduk Split, Sevilla, and various teams in Italy. His managerial experience is extensive, having taken charge of six Italian sides, including Genoa (in three separate stints), Torino (for three seasons), and a brief 12-match spell at AS Roma.

Juric’s Vision for Southampton

Juric has signed an 18-month contract and is eager to instil his footballing philosophy at St. Mary’s. Speaking to the club’s official website, he outlined his aggressive, high-pressing approach.

“I’m very pleased,” Juric said. “This is a really big challenge, but I’m optimistic because I see a team capable of doing better. It’s important to quickly connect with the fans. I want an aggressive team, and I believe Southampton supporters will enjoy that style of football.”

Juric emphasised the need for urgency in adapting to his tactics, adding: “We must be more aggressive, press higher, and quickly change our mentality. This is my idea of football.”

Southampton fans will hope Juric can spark a turnaround in their fortunes, as they aim to claw their way out of the relegation zone.
