Arsenal returned to winning ways in the Premier League with a commanding 5-1 victory over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park, sending a strong message in the title race.

Having drawn their previous two league matches against Fulham and Everton, the Gunners knew they could not afford further slip-ups, especially with title rivals Liverpool and Chelsea playing on Sunday. Their task was made more urgent after Nottingham Forest’s impressive win at Brentford earlier in the day saw Arsenal drop a place in the standings.

The headline team news for Arsenal was the inclusion of Gabriel Jesus. Fresh from scoring a hat-trick in the midweek Carabao Cup quarter-final against Palace, Mikel Arteta’s decision to start the Brazilian paid off handsomely. Jesus struck twice within the first 15 minutes, either side of Ismaïla Sarr’s equaliser, ending his Premier League goal drought stretching back to January.

Jesus was agonisingly close to a first-half hat-trick when his header hit the post, but Kai Havertz was perfectly positioned to slot home the rebound, giving Arsenal a 3-1 lead at half-time.

Crystal Palace started the second half with intent, testing Arsenal's defence repeatedly. Goalkeeper David Raya was pivotal, making crucial saves from Sarr and Jean-Philippe Mateta to preserve the Gunners' lead.

The only downside for the visitors was an injury to Bukayo Saka in the first half. The winger signalled immediately after delivering a cross and went straight down the tunnel for treatment, raising concerns over a potential hamstring issue.
