Barcelona midfielder Marc Casado has issued a rallying cry, expressing optimism about the team’s potential despite their recent dip in form. He emphasised that, given the opportunity at the start of the season, Barcelona would have gladly accepted their current position—leading La Liga and sitting second in their Champions League group.
Barcelona Midfielder Urges Focus Against Atlético Madrid: ‘We Must Match Their Intensity’
Looking ahead to their crucial encounter with Atlético Madrid, Casado underlined the team’s determination to overcome their recent struggles in the league.
“We are very motivated for Saturday’s match. We’ve already identified the areas we need to improve, and the most important thing is that we are committed to changing the recent dynamic in La Liga,” Casado told Mundo Deportivo.
The Challenge of Facing Atlético
Casado acknowledged the formidable challenge posed by Atlético Madrid, who come into the match on a winning streak. He highlighted Atlético’s intense style of play and stressed the importance of Barcelona matching that intensity to secure a victory.
“We know Atlético play with a lot of intensity, and at the very least, we must match it to beat them,” he noted.
Casado also emphasised the need for the right mentality and a fighting spirit as Barcelona aim to retain their spot at the top of the table.
A Rising Leader
Reflecting on his journey to becoming a starting midfielder for Barça, Casado expressed his ambition to grow into a leadership role. He pointed to his experience as captain of Barcelona’s reserve team last season as evidence of his leadership potential.
“I hope to become a leader for the future. I believe I have a natural inclination towards leadership, and I was already captain of the reserve team last season,” he stated.
Inspired by the Greats
Casado expressed his admiration for Barcelona’s current and legendary midfielders, drawing inspiration from players such as Pedri and Frenkie de Jong. He credited their quality for pushing him to continually improve and strive for excellence.
He also humbly addressed comparisons to club icons like Andrés Iniesta, Xavi Hernández, and Sergio Busquets, acknowledging the immense honour such comparisons bring.
“Being compared to Iniesta, Xavi, or Busquets is something incredible,” Casado remarked.
The Influence of Hansi Flick
Casado discussed the influence of Barcelona manager Hansi Flick on his development. He reflected on a video from Flick’s tenure as Germany’s national team coach, where the manager expressed frustration at a poor performance. Casado admitted that such moments demonstrate Flick’s passion and commitment to high standards.
“When the ‘mister’ arrived, I saw that video and thought, ‘Be careful.’ But he is an excellent coach. Tension and anger are part of the job, but most moments with him are positive,” Casado explained.
He praised Flick’s ability to manage the dressing room effectively, highlighting the confidence the coach instils in his players.
“He manages the dressing room very well, giving confidence not only to me but to all my teammates,” he added.
As Barcelona prepare for their clash with Atlético Madrid, Casado’s words underline the team’s determination to return to their best and maintain their position as league leaders.
