Newcastle winger Anthony Gordon has officially signed a new long-term contract with the Premier League club, following TEAMtalk’s earlier report of the agreement at the end of September.

The 23-year-old England international has netted 15 goals and provided 11 assists in 74 appearances since his £45 million move from Everton to the Magpies in January 2023.

After making his senior England debut in March this year, Gordon was part of Gareth Southgate’s squad that reached the final of Euro 2024 in Berlin, where they narrowly lost to Spain.

Throughout the summer, Gordon was heavily linked with a return to Merseyside, with Liverpool expressing interest in bringing the former Everton star back to the city. That interest persisted into the January transfer window, but with Gordon’s new deal now confirmed, any hope of a move to Anfield appears to have been extinguished.

TEAMtalk reported last month that Gordon had agreed to extend his stay at St James’ Park, with the club addressing financial issues related to the Premier League’s profitability and sustainability rules by selling Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh.

Explaining his decision to sign the new deal, Gordon highlighted his strong relationship with Newcastle manager Eddie Howe as a key factor.

Speaking on the club’s official website, Gordon said: “I just think the club is in a fantastic place. Since the takeover, it’s been on an upward trajectory. Me and the gaffer are a perfect match in terms of style of play. I love it here.

“The team really suits me – and I’m here to win a trophy. In short, we need to win one. Winning a trophy here would be unbelievable, especially given how long the fans have waited. Being part of the team that finally does it is a massive goal of mine.”

Howe and Mitchell Praise Gordon’s Impact

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe expressed his delight at Gordon’s commitment to the club, acknowledging the player’s growth both on and off the pitch.

Howe said: “I’m thrilled Anthony has pledged his future to the club. He’s developed as a player and as a person during his time at Newcastle United, and he continues to show just how talented he is on the biggest stage.

“He’s incredibly dedicated to improving himself and the team, and when you combine that with the quality of his performances and his outstanding work ethic, it’s easy to see why he has such a strong connection with our supporters.

“There’s still so much more to come from Anthony, and I’m excited about what the future holds for him and for us.”
