Juventus have confirmed that one of their social media accounts was hacked after it appeared to announce the signing of highly-rated Real Madrid forward Arda Güler.

Supporters of both clubs were left in shock on Monday afternoon when the Serie A side’s English-language X account seemed to confirm the signing, despite the fact that the next transfer window does not officially open until January.

“Welcome to Juventus, Arda Güler! The rising star of football is now part of the Juventus family,” read the post, which featured a photograph of the 19-year-old Turkey international walking on a runway.

However, Juventus quickly moved to dispel the rumours, clarifying that their account had been compromised.

“Our Juventus English account has been hacked,” Juventus stated. “Please disregard the false information being shared on this account. We are working to resolve the issue.”

Güler joined Real Madrid from Turkish club Fenerbahçe at the start of last season for an initial fee of €20 million (£16.6 million), and netted six goals in 12 appearances during his debut season. His impressive performances led to a breakout summer for Turkey at UEFA Euro 2024.

The young midfielder, now valued at €45 million (£37.4 million), scored a brilliant goal in Turkey’s 3-1 victory against Georgia during the tournament, helping his country reach the quarter-finals before being eliminated by the Netherlands.

Güler Struggling for Game Time Under Ancelotti

Despite his standout performances last season and gaining further recognition during Euro 2024, Güler has found it difficult to secure regular starts under Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti this season.

The Turkish international has only started three times this season, all in La Liga, and was an unused substitute in Real Madrid’s 2-1 victory over Celta Vigo on Saturday, which left them in second place behind Barcelona in La Liga.

Güler will be hoping for more playing time in Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League clash against Borussia Dortmund at the Santiago Bernabéu.

Meanwhile, Juventus are currently sitting in third place in Serie A, trailing leaders Napoli by three points after securing a 1-0 victory over Lazio on Saturday, thanks to a late own goal.
