Cameron Carter-Vickers has been ruled out of Celtic’s Champions League clash with Borussia Dortmund.

The USA international remained in Glasgow as the rest of the squad travelled to Germany for the match at Signal Iduna Park, having failed to recover from a toe injury that has kept him out of recent fixtures.

Manager Brendan Rodgers stated that Carter-Vickers may be fit by the weekend but was unable to make the trip for what is a crucial match for the Scottish champions.

“Cam is not available. We’ll see how he is leading up to next weekend, but he’s not here for this one,” Rodgers confirmed.

“Clearly, he’s a top-class player for us, and unfortunately, he’s missed a bit of Champions League football during his time here.

“He has been unable to play in five of the 12 games the club has participated in, which is unfortunate.

“But we have other players. It’s always an opportunity for someone else to step in, and hopefully, we can get Cam back sooner rather than later.

“That said, we can’t overthink it. We will rely on the team as a whole. There isn’t just one player that dictates our results or how we’ve been performing this season. Cam is, of course, a very important player, but to get a result, it will be about the team working together.”

Summer signing Auston Trusty filled in during matches against Falkirk and St Johnstone and now appears set to be given the nod for his side’s biggest test of the season so far.
