The Florida State Seminoles entered the 2024 college football season seeking redemption after being excluded from last year’s College Football Playoff, but have yet to replicate the success of 2023. They lost their first two games despite being heavy favourites, and on Saturday, they suffered their third consecutive defeat. The Memphis Tigers travelled to Doak Campbell Stadium and comprehensively outplayed the Seminoles, securing a 20-12 victory.

As expected, social media was unforgiving towards the Seminoles following the loss, with many suggesting that missing the playoff was a turning point for the team. “I’m being completely serious... This might be the worst Florida State team of all time,” one fan added. Another commented, “Florida State are 0-4 since missing the playoffs.”

One fan remarked, “The College Football Playoff Committee broke Florida State.” Another noted, “This is the second time in four years that Florida State have started a season 0-3. It should never happen to them. It’s particularly embarrassing when they’re suing the ACC because they think they’re too good for the rest of the conference.”

While the blame cannot entirely be placed on one individual, DJ Uiagalelei’s inconsistency at quarterback has undoubtedly hindered the team. The former Clemson and Oregon State quarterback finished the first quarter having completed 5-of-6 passes for just seven yards and a poor interception. He ended the game 16-of-30 for 201 yards, without managing to score a touchdown. This 0-3 start marks only the third time in the past 50 years that Florida State have gone winless in their first three matches, two of those occurring under Mike Norvell.

The Seminoles will be hoping to secure their first win of the season next week against new ACC member Cal, who are coming off an upset victory over Auburn.
