French superstar Kylian Mbappe of Real Madrid has declined a mediation offer from Ligue 1's legal commission regarding his dispute with his former club Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) over unpaid wages and bonuses.

Mbappe, who joined Real Madrid as a free agent this summer, claims that PSG owes him €55 million (approximately £47 million) in unpaid salaries for three months and the final portion of a loyalty bonus.

Mbappe had previously requested the commission's involvement, and his representative met with PSG officials in Paris.

"The prospect of mediation was discussed this morning," Mbappe's representative stated. "However, this possibility was rejected during the meeting. Mediation would be redundant in addressing a lack of payment that can be clearly identified from the player's payslip."

"A PSG spokesperson said the Commission has now urged the player to consider the mediation process," adding that, according to an agreement made before the 2023-24 season, Mbappe allegedly agreed to forfeit bonuses related to his reintegration into the team. He had been sidelined during this period after opting not to extend his contract with the club.

Mbappe has scored a record-breaking 256 goals and provided 108 assists in 308 appearances for PSG over seven years, contributing to the club's six Ligue 1 titles and four Coupe de France victories among other honours. The separation this summer was less than amicable; PSG were disheartened by his decision to leave after they had secured the most lucrative contract in the club's history with him in 2022. Mbappe was dissatisfied, feeling that the team had not fulfilled its promise to sign key players to maintain competitiveness.

Although Mbappe's side has not specified their next steps after rejecting mediation, the deadlock may be resolved through an employment tribunal.
