FC Barcelona has announced a player transfer through an official statement shared on social media and published on its website.

"FC Barcelona and PSV Eindhoven have reached an agreement for the transfer of the player Sergino Dest. FC Barcelona retains a percentage of any future sale," the statement began, suggesting that Barça has not been able to receive any money for the Netherlands international.

Barça noted that Dest arrived at the club in 2020 from Ajax, "becoming the first-ever USA international to play for the Blaugranes" when they bought the then 20-year-old for a €21 million fee plus a further €5 million in variables.

Dest made a total of 72 appearances for Barça, starting 56 of those matches.

"In those games for the Barça first team, Dest scored three goals and provided four assists, claiming a Copa del Rey title in the two seasons in which he formed part of the first team squad," the club noted.

"The defender brings to a close his time as a Blaugrana after spending the last two seasons out on loan. In 2022/23, Dest was at AC Milan, making 14 appearances before joining PSV Eindhoven the following campaign where he made 34 appearances in 2023/24," Barça concluded.

Dest joined PSV on loan initially after returning to Barça yet failing to convince former head coach Xavi Hernandez that he deserved a spot at right-back despite the first XI lacking a natural player in that position.

As Dest went out on loan, Barça managed to secure Joao Cancelo from Manchester City on a temporary assignment and will try to make that move permanent this summer.

PSV seems to have got one over on Barça by initially turning down the option to buy Dest for €11 million following a May ACL injury, which CBS Sports reported could sideline him for up to nine months.

Yet offloading him is still beneficial to Barça, who can get Dest's salary off the wage bill, further balance the books, and move towards falling on the right side of Financial Fair Play limits, hopefully moving towards using the 1:1 rule once more.
