Tragedy struck on Friday in Imawa town, Kura Local Government area of Kano State along the Zaria – Kano highway. A moving truck lost control and tragically killed at least 14 worshippers. The incident occurred as worshippers were returning from the Juma’at mosque after observing the two rakat Friday prayers.

The Kano Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, CC Ibrahim Abdullahi, confirmed the incident to reporters, noting that several others sustained varying degrees of injuries. According to a statement from his spokesperson, CRC Abdullahi Labaran, preliminary reports indicated that the truck with registration number MKA 537 XN lost control and collided with pedestrians who had just finished Friday prayers.

The Sector Commander stated that investigations were underway to determine the exact circumstances of the crash. CC Abdullahi extended condolences to the families of the deceased and stressed the FRSC's commitment to road safety, urging all road users to strictly adhere to traffic regulations to prevent such tragedies.

In another incident, a building under construction collapsed at Dorayi Babba, Gwale Local Government area of Kano, resulting in the deaths of the owner, his child, and construction workers. The collapse also injured eight others, including construction workers and passersby seeking shelter during early morning rainfall. Victims are currently receiving treatment at Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital according to sources in the area.
