Wisdom Hashimu, a 13-year-old, died by suicide following reported torture by a soldier and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force in Kaduna State. Accused of theft, his family seeks justice as investigations proceed.

A 13-year-old boy named Wisdom Hashimu tragically died by suicide in the Ungwan Maigero Community in the Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State. The incident occurred on Thursday, June 7, following alleged torture by a soldier and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force in the area.

Wisdom, accused of stealing N10,000 from a neighbor on June 1, reportedly took his own life in the family’s compound on Lafiya Sarki Street. According to reports on Channels TV, the neighbor, a 16-year-old identified as Hope, involved her boyfriend, Segun Samson, a serving soldier at Bodi Camp in Port-Harcourt, after the money went missing during his visit.

Wisdom and his brother were taken to the Civilian JTF office, where Wisdom, who was sitting for his Junior Secondary School examination, was severely beaten. Despite receiving medical attention, he was unable to walk due to the extent of the injuries.

Tragically, Wisdom's lifeless body was discovered hanging on a noose at the back of their compound on Thursday. His father, Mr. Saul, accused the Civilian JTF of taking the law into their own hands and demanded justice for his son's death.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Mansir Hassan, confirmed that an investigation had been initiated into the matter, with the Commissioner of Police directing the Department of Criminal Investigation to take charge and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
