Piers Morgan’s former wife, Marion Shalloe, has reportedly been “fighting for her life” following a freak accident earlier this year, their son Spencer Morgan has revealed.

The television personality, 60, was married to Shalloe for 17 years between 1991 and 2008. The couple share three sons — Albert, Stanley, and Spencer.

In a heartfelt post shared on Instagram, Spencer disclosed that his mother had been hospitalised in a life-threatening condition, with medical professionals at one point expressing “little hope” for her survival.

“Seven months ago, our mum was involved in a freak accident which left her fighting for her life…” he wrote.

“We were told on more than one occasion that there was little hope, if any. But against all odds, she held on. Thanks to the two heroic surgeons in the third picture, and the countless others at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, she was discharged today after 218 days on the ward.”

Spencer went on to add: “The staff called her a minor miracle, but they are the miracle workers. My family will be eternally grateful for their incredible work. Never give up.”

He accompanied the post with photographs of himself and Albert alongside their mother, as well as a touching video clip showing hospital staff applauding and cheering as Shalloe walked out of the ward aided by a crutch.

Spencer did not disclose specific details of the incident that led to the accident.

The post was met with an outpouring of support from friends and followers. Among those offering their well-wishes was Piers Morgan’s former Good Morning Britain co-host Susanna Reid, who commented: “The best news ❤️.”

Actress and Coronation Street star Claire Sweeney wrote, “Sending love and thoughts x,” while Loose Women panellist Jane Moore commented, “She’s a tough bird xx.”

Marion Shalloe worked as a hospital ward nurse at the time she married Morgan. After their divorce in 2008, Morgan later married journalist Celia Walden in 2010. The couple have one daughter, Elise.

Reflecting on his divorce from Shalloe, Morgan once described the experience as “horrendous.”

“I'd only just got divorced. There has to be a decent period before these things are discussed. The divorce was a pretty horrendous experience,” he told the Daily Mail.

“The day Marion and I divorced, I said, ‘You know what? We can both go away feeling awful about this, but let’s never mention it again.’”

Despite the painful split, Morgan has since said they’ve remained on good terms and co-parented successfully.

“I don’t regret it — these things happen — but I’m pleased we’ve stayed good friends, because that’s important for your kids,” he shared during a segment on Good Morning Britain.

“I produced three fantastic children with my ex-wife. The best advice I ever received was to speak to them every day — and that’s when you need your ex to be very accommodating.”

“I’ve spoken to my children, with only a handful of exceptions, every day over the past nine years,” he added.
