David Beckham's MLS franchise Inter Miami have sacked head coach Phil Neville, with the team currently sat last in the Eastern Conference with 15 points in 15 games

Phil Neville has been sacked as manager of Inter Miami - who are co-owned by his former Manchester United and England teammate David Beckham.

It comes after the football club's 1-0 defeat to New York Red Bulls - the team's fourth successive loss - which left them bottom of the MLS Eastern Conference in the US.

Neville has been in charge since January 2021, and led them to the first-round of the MLS Cup last season. But performances have dipped this season and Miami have lost 66 percent of their games in MLS.

The team also announced that it parted ways with assistant coach Jason Kreis. Assistant coach Javier Morales will assume the role as Interim Head Coach effective immediately.

Assistant coach Darren Powell, goalkeeper coach Sebastián Saja, and assistant coach and performance analyst Alec Scott will remain in their current roles.

Co-owner David Beckham, a teammate of Neville’s at Manchester United and the England national team, said:

“When we appointed Phil we knew he would give Inter Miami his all and I have watched him work incredibly hard and with real commitment towards the ambitions we set out for the club.

He and his family embraced Miami and he has devoted himself to the drive to bring success to the city and to our fans. Phil has made a real contribution to the culture of our club with his qualities as a leader and knowledge as a coach. Sometimes in this game we have to make the toughest decisions and sadly we feel the time is right to make a change. I want to personally thank Phil for his hard work, his passion for our club and for his integrity as a person.”

Neville had been coach of the England women's team for three years when he left the role to take the Miami job.

46-year-old Neville was appointed in January 2021 and helped Inter reach the MLS Cup play-offs in 2022.

"Sometimes in this game we have to make the toughest decisions," said the club's co-owner David Beckham.
