In a recent interview with fcbayern.com, Thomas Müller shared his thoughts on Bayern Munich’s painful Champions League exit at the hands of Inter Milan in the quarter-finals. In what can only be described as a crushing disappointment, Bayern fell short of realising their dream of a Finale Dahoam – a final on home soil. As ever, Müller addressed the situation with characteristic composure and insight.

“We weren’t knocked out of the Champions League because we performed poorly or were in a bad phase,” Müller explained. “On the contrary, we had many strong periods and positive moments throughout these Champions League matches. But in football, the final result – particularly against top-level opponents – can sometimes tell a different story. That’s regardless of how the full 180 minutes played out.”

Despite their premature departure from the tournament, Bayern Munich’s performances were largely commendable. While there were moments of lost concentration, the Bavarians maintained control over most of the tie across both legs. Ultimately, however, matches are decided in a few crucial instances, and luck was not on Bayern’s side this time.

For Thomas Müller, the Champions League may not offer a Hollywood ending – at least not with Bayern Munich.
