The announcement comes four months after the 55-year-old French-Canadian singer said she was diagnosed with a rare neurological disorder called stiff-person syndrome that causes muscle spasms.

Canadian pop singer Celine Dion announced Friday that she was cancelling all her remaining live shows, telling fans she is not strong enough to tour after being diagnosed with a rare neurological disorder that makes it difficult for her to perform.

Dion revealed last December that she was suffering from Stiff-Person Syndrome (SPS), a condition she said doesn’t allow her “to sing the way I’m used to”. At the time, the disorder forced her to postpone some European shows on her “Courage World Tour”.

The 55-year-old multiple Grammy winner, best known for the “Titanic” movie theme song “My Heart Will Go On”, has now cancelled all the shows she had scheduled for 2023 and 2024.

“I’m so sorry to disappoint all of you once again,” Dion said on Twitter. “I’m working really hard to build back my strength, but touring can be very difficult even when you’re 100%.

“It’s not fair to you to keep postponing the shows, and even though it breaks my heart, it’s best that we cancel everything now until I’m really ready to be back on stage again. I want you all to know, I’m not giving up… and I can’t wait to see you again!”

The tour’s European stretch consisted of 42 shows in seven cities from late August to early October and another 17 cities during the spring of 2024. It was to have been Dion’s first global concert tour in 10 years and the first without her husband-manager Rene Angelil, who died from throat cancer in 2016.

The singer said tickets for her concerts will be refunded from their point of purchase.

SPS is a rare condition and not well understood.

The disorder is “a rare, progressive syndrome that affects the nervous system, specifically the brain and spinal cord,” according to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke.

It is characterised by fluctuating muscle rigidity in the trunk and limbs and a heightened sensitivity to stimuli such as noise, touch, and emotional distress that can set off muscle spasms. The condition led Dion to postpone her Las Vegas residency in October 2021.
