Manchester United beat Chelsea by a 4-1 score-line to book their UCL qualification spot to the detriment of Liverpool hopes.

Manchester united have secured their place in the top-four and next season’s Champions League following a confident 4-1 demolition of Chelsea at Old Trafford last night. Erik Ten Hag says that they are back where they belong in European football’s top competition along with a first trophy already in the bag and there is still a chance to end the season with a second trophy with the FA Cup final still to come.

United dominated for most parts of the game and capitalized on their chances created. Marcus Rashford who missed the last two games was able to get his 30th goal of the season becoming the first Manchester United player to reach that mark since Robin Van Persie, ten years ago. Chelsea are on course for their lowest goals total in Premier League history but got a goal back through Joao Felix, but that didn’t stop the United celebrations.

The result marks a big turnaround under Ten Hag after they finished 6th last season when they made their lowest Premier League points total, but now with a game to go they are 3rd and 14 points better off than the previous campaign. Manchester United Manager has since told the Club that they will need to invest this summer if they are to progress even further next season and he has admitted that he is expecting new faces in the squad this summer as Harry Kane Declan Rice and Mason Mount are high on the shortlist although it is unlikely that all three will come in.

Chelseas’s dismal season goes from bad to worse as they are guaranteed to finish with their lowest ever Premier League total. The London club is in real despair as they looked rudderless, shambolic and lacking leadership. Going into the final game of the season they are facing their lowest Premier League table finish since 1996 and the loss was their 22nd in all competitions which is their worst in a season since 1979. The Blues’ record under Frank Lampard makes for alarming reading and incoming Manager Mauricio Pochettino is said to have his work cut out for him.

Last night’s result confirms no Champions League football for Liverpool as they are now unable to catch the leading pack and Mohammed Salah has issued an apology admitting that they have failed the fans and there is no excuse. In a tweet the Reds’ forward expressing that he was devastated and apologized to the fans for “a failure of a season”. This implies Liverpool's return to Europa League for the first time since 2016 when they made into the final and narrowly lost to a competition-dominant Sevilla side.

With the FA Cup final little more than a week away Manchester United winger, Antony looks set to miss out as he was taken off on a stretcher after Trevor Chalobah’s crunching challenge and Erik Ten Hag says it does seem like a serious injury.
